Ljubljana, Slovenia 🇸🇮

We have had a busy couple of days.   We made the trip across the pond with very few difficulties.   Our flight was delayed 2 hours, but we had no worries about making our connection to Ljubljana.

Our only goal the first day was to stay awake as long as possible to mitigate the effects of the 7 hour time difference.   We achieved that goal, but it was not helped by our overindulgence that occurred when we tried to sample the cuisine of Slovenia in one meal.  We had pudding, stew, sausage,  a concoction of buckwheat and pork cracklins and beer 🍺.

Today, we did a city tour.   We were the only English speakers,  so we had a private tour.

The history is filled with legends about dragons.

The view of town from the castle.

One of the many charming streets of Ljubljana.

Having a few beers, at a cafe on the river, after our tour.

We have not been here long, but have a very favorable impression of the country of Slovenia.  The scenery is beautiful and the people are very charming.  The have very good beer and it's easy to get by in English.

The city tour was a wonderful way to get to know the culture and history of the country.  For a country of only a little over 2 million people, they have a lot to be proud about.

From August 29th until September 22nd, Julie and I will be visiting a new part of the world for us.  We have an adventure planned in the countries of Slovenia and Croatia, two of the six countries that make up the former country of Yugoslavia.

The first part of the trip will be a hiking tour in the Julian Alps of Slovenia.  It is a self-guided tour in which we are provided with a very good map app on our phones and will hike from town to town.  The hikes vary from 8 to 12 miles each day and we have been promised provide beautiful countryside, amazing views and overnights in charming towns.

Here is the itinerary:

After that, we will drive to the world famous Plivice Lakes National Park in Croatia to view the beautiful lakes and waterfalls.  Next, we head to the beach for a few day's vacation from our vacation.  After that, we head to Split and begin our bike and boat tour to Dubrovnik in Croatia.  The islands are reported to be stunningly beautiful.  Everyday, we will do a short (less than 30 mile) ebike ride.

Here is the planned itinerary:

At the end of the week long tour, we plan on staying in Dubrovnik and doing daytours to Kotor in Montenegro and Mostar in Boznia-Hertzogovina.

It should be a grand adventure.  I am not sure about the internet or phone service, but I will plan to post a couple of pictures each day so that anyone interested can follow along.
